ALL OUR KIDS (AOK) - Mother Goose Program

This is a 9 week evidence based community program that is fun, interactive, informative and free!

The Parent Child Mother Goose program is delivered in community settings close to where participants live such as local community centres, libraries and schools. The philosophy and objectives of this two hour weekly program for parents of infants is seeped in pre-literary skill building which increases parent’s awareness of the importance of early interactions that promote positive relationships, school readiness and success in life.

The program encourages parents to be attuned to their child’s needs, to respond sensitively and to support and expand their child’s communication cues. This helps to strengthen parent/child attachment and language development. These objectives are met through the use and power of songs, rhythms and stories. We structure the program and atmosphere to allow time for parents to meet community neighbours, build relationships and develop informal support networks. We provide a number of resources both written and in the form of short presentations regarding community information with an aim to build family awareness of existing parenting and family supports available to them. We will support referrals if appropriate.

The programs are conducted in English with sensitivity to English as a second language which enhances English language skills in both children and adults. Language development, tuning in to your child’s unique temperament, emotional, social and physical development, communication, building friendships, a sense of belonging and knowing your community are universal truths particular to the Parent Child Mother Goose program and as such are used in all of the locations and communities where the programs are in. Families in Maple are very different to families in Stouffville or King City but the universal truths of the program transcend these differences and support the objectives of the program which are in tune with the objectives the York Region All Our Kids funding.
